Citrus groves, Villages and the Algarve Serra region
There are several delightful walks to choose from, allowing you to step back in time and experience a way of life that has changed little over the years. Discover picturesque villages, with their white washed houses and brightly painted windows and doors. Smell the geraniums and the lavenders, the Jasmine and the roses. At mealtimes, the smells of home cooking waft through the air - garlic and rosemary, grilled meat and fish.

Walk amongst the citrus groves and small scale farms, where the goatherd and sheperd still follow the flock. In March and April, this area is particularly special, as the smell of orange blossom fills the air. Discover the banks of the tidal river Arade and visit the medieval town of Silves, with its stunning castle, it's cobbled streets and small cafes. Enjoy a leisurely coffee and sample some of the famous local confectionary.

The Serra is a wonderful area to explore, knowing that the lack of intensive farming has left much of the landscape virtually untouched. Walk through pine and eucyluptus forest, follow streams and dried river beds. Bathe in the smells of wild herbs and flowers. Visit tiny roadside cafes or stop for lunch where the locals eat. Discover traditional dishes and home grown produce bursting with flavour. Enjoy the local wines and olives, the freshly baked bread and wonderful salads.
Explore the area around the Resevoir do Arade and follow the levadas as they bring water to the farms below. Discover megalithic tombs and ancient dwellings. Enjoy panoramic views of rolling hills, isolated farms and distant coastline.
This is a very special part of Portugal, a unique opportunity to walk in an area still totaly untouched by tourism and development.
